Are-you-Prepared-Chalkboard_PREP-for-Schools-Blog

Students,
The Grade 6 Humanities team needs to remind you to come prepared for class. It’s nearly February and we’ve seen an increase in students who are forgetting materials in their locker or another classroom.  It’s your responsibility to come to class prepared! That means having your computer charged, your homework complete, and bringing your book to read, your planner and other materials you regularly use in class.  We will no longer be allowing students to leave during class to get things they forget. Come on, it’s the second semester!

All About Mummies

29 Jan
Watch this playlist we have created – All about Mummies – to learn more about mummification.  Each video is short, but they are all good and provide interesting facts and details about mummies.  Take a look at the British Museum’s link of Ancient Egypt and their link on mummification.  After watching the videos, post a comment and tell us something you learned.

Grade 6 students had the good fortune of attending John Coy’s discussion today. They learned about the life of an author, how long it takes to get a book published, and how Mr. Coy defines revision.  Students asked a lot of excellent questions. Check out Mr. Coy’s website HERE.  Post a comment and tell us if you enjoyed his visit and anything interesting you learned from his talk.  Have a good weekend!

Students, check out this video on the Nile River. It’s a good review of some things we learned in lesson 1 (ex. silt – look at that brown water going over the waterfall…that’s silt!). Here’s a satellite image of the Nile Delta:

Grade 6 will soon be say goodbye to two awesome students, Enzo and Jina whose last day will be on Friday. Enzo is returning to Australia after three years at AISC and Jina is returning to S. Korea, after four years here.  Both students are kind, hard-working, and positive.  We will miss you, Enzo and Jina!
In other class news, Mr. Seth Hills, a M.S. Intern at AISC, is joining Mr. Martin and Ms. Jaya for the second semester.  Mr. Seth is from Washington State in the U.S.A. and has been an intern in Grade 8 and Grade 7 Humanities last year and this year, respectively.  If you have a question for Mr. Seth, please feel free to post a question and ask him.
Dear Jina, (울 진아씨께)
네가 우리 학교 떠난다니 아쉽다 ㅠ.. You were so kind and had been a helpful friend to me. 어떨 땐 엉뚱함으로 웃음을 자아내기도 했지^^  Jina, you did more to me than I did to you, so I’m very unhappy to send you away to Korea. I believe you will be a perfect student who works really hard and always get 100% on your middle and final exams. 나한테 너무나도 소중한 친구였고, 항상 나한테 잘해줘서 고마워. I’ll never forget you. Good luck in Korea, and farewell! 적응 잘 할끼야! 잘 가그라~

Dear Enzo,
I’m going to miss you so much! It’s just like Irman, you know. It’s as if a part of my soul will be taken with you. I haven’t known you as much as some of your other friends, but you’ve been a great friend for me all the way. Hope you’ll stay in touch!
Your friend,    Prahalad
Post a comment and make sure you exchange contact information with Enzo and Jina.

Grade 6 students will meet Mr. Coy on Friday to learn more about revising our writing. If you could ask him one question, what would you ask him?

Egypt – The Gift of the Nile

14 Jan

http://youtu.be/KdtgX9ORiW4

We began our new unit on ancient Egypt on Monday. This is an excellent unit which we are sure you will enjoy. Over the next few weeks, we will learn about the geography, life in ancient Egypt, the pyramids, the different kingdoms, the legacy of ancient Egypt and much, much more. The first video is a travel advertisement which is short, but nice. It gives you a glimpse of what it looks like today. The second video gives you some information about ancient Egypt. Both videos are a nice introduction to our unit.
