How to Blog

to-blog-or-not

How to Post a Blog Comment

  • Click on the ‘Leave a comment’ link under the message.

  • Type your message in the comment box where it says ‘Leave a reply.’

  • Type your school email address and your first name in the appropriate boxes under the comment box. Leave the website address box empty. You need to use your name, not a nickname or your initials.

  • When you are done typing your message, click the ‘Post comment’ button.  You’re done!

  • All comments are moderated, which means they must be approved by me first.

Note: To stay updated on what’s on the blog, click the ‘follow’ link at the top of my website and add your email address. Every time I write (post) a new message on the blog, you will get a message letting you know. That is the BEST way to ‘follow’ news in my class.

What is a Good Comment?

blog2Before you post your comment, ask yourself:

Is my comment on topic?
An on-topic comment specifically addresses the questions and points of the original post.

Is my comment concise and well-written?
If your response is longer than the original post, revise your comment.  Please proofread your comment for spelling and grammar. Yes, I make typos too, but I will not accept a poorly written comment that looks like a text message to a friend: “Gr8! i think ur idea is good to.”

Is my comment friendly and polite in tone and language?
Even if you disagree with what somebody else has written, you do everyone a favor when you keep things as polite and friendly as possible.  I am the moderator and no comments will be posted if I deem them to be rude.

Does my comment add something useful to the conversation?
If a classmate has already made the point you want to make, there’s no need for you to write, “Me too!”  Write thoughtful comments that show good critical thinking skills.  Finally, this blog is not a ‘dialogue’ between only you and your teacher, but a ‘conversation’ between our entire class.  We can all learn from each other.

Nice opinion Enzo, but I think Harin can’t always write in Korean, only when she needs to translate when she doesn’t understand something.

Good question, Enzo. It is easy to make a simple blog. It takes a long time to find all of the good links. I started working on this blog in my free time last spring when I knew I would be moving to grade 6 this year. I am always working on it and updating it. It’s my portfolio in a way. I hope the students enjoy it and find it helpful.
