In Chapter 2, we are learning about Early Human Culture and the development of art. There are many examples of ancient cave paintings, particularly in France and Spain. What does this art tell us about early humans? Where are some of the places where prehistoric art or cave art has been found (see Bradshaw Foundation link and other links in this post).
For the early humans they drew different paintings to honor the spirit of the animals they ate. The art work shows how was their life like and how they hunted different animals or what kind of animals lived in that place. Some also showed the tools they made.
Early humans draw drawing in the cave show that there believes, their life, their thing and animals that looked like that time. I shows the honor of spirit they believed what is in every thing nature. They showed even the tools they use in early time. There was bulls, red bulls, and other animals like deers but there was biggest animal that was a bull.
The early humans got there paint from the rocks and minerals grinded it up and melted it. That is like today. Many humans use paint for art and all sorts of other things. Us humans don’t really know but we paint all sorts of things and they can be shaped maby like animals. I know that we don’t paint in caves but we all do it often.
A lot of archeologist believe that many early humans made cave paintings to honor spirits in nature. Some things that they would honor are trees, plants, rocks, or even dead animals that they hunted for food. They also drew cave paintings to tell stories. Some things that they would draw were bulls, horses, deer, weapons, or even people. They might also draw people that died to honor them and there spirits. But a question I had about the cave paints is how did they first learn how to make the paints to make the cave paints? How did they get the idea to paint on caves? That is what I learned About cave paintings and some questions I had.
Most of these pieces of cave art are of animals. Normally, today, we don’t draw animals that often because we don’t interact with them as often as a prehistoric human might. Back in early civilization, humans probably relied on animals for a lot of things, like food, transportation, and hunting. The fact that animals are often displayed shows that early society involved animals a lot.
I’ve found some really good information about the materials they used to paint. First, they mostly made paint by breaking colored rocks or minerals and they broke them until the rocks became powder. There were four main colors – orange, red, black and yellow. The orange color was made by a material called “Ocher”. The red color was made by a material called “Iron Oxide”. The black color was made by a material called “Manganese”. And finally, the yellow color was made by a material called “Sulfur”. The early humans made the paintings by putting the powder of each material in oil or water and then put it on the walls of the caves or in their shelters.
In our social studies book, the early humans thought that all the living things – also the plants and everything they believed – had spirits. They worshiped them as gods. The cave painting had animals and some humans on the cave walls, so maybe worshiped them as gods. Also it could be that they want to kill the animals or they just drew them on the wall.
Early humans drew lots of animals for respect to the animals which they killed. Also they’re religion was all the nature things like rock, trees, animals etc. And the biggest animal in Lascaux cave is the bull. It is 16 feet from top of the bull till end of the tail.
I thought first that the early human just drew for fun or in purpose to show the other people in the future but in this video I learned that they were expressing there belief and now I think why did they draw?Then again I learned that they didn’t developed language as us.and they was showing respect to the animals and nature and to make the death of the animal happier(?) so I think that time they really had to respect nature because they gave food and also medicine was also from the tree.So nature was something that is important like our family…
